Metallica’s 2014 Grammy Performance With Lang Lang

The Grammy’s suck balls. Last night was the 56th Annual Grammy Awards, and among the so-called highlights was the Metallica performance with Chinese concert pianist Lang Lang. You can watch the performance above, but hurry before it gets removed.

I’m not trying to slag on Metallica, that’s too easy these days, but what were they thinking? Admittedly, incorporating an accompanying piano into your 26-year-old classic is a cool idea, but they didn’t do it properly and wound up with a performance that sounded like a diarrhea fart. First, they substituted the combat intro of “One” with the piano, then they allowed for a piano solo, and then the piano just sounded like a kid banging on the keys. It was a horrible, horrible mess.

The other issues included James Hetfield sounding very old. Normally I don’t fault a metal singer for his voice because that’s beyond his control, but James also wasn’t in key. Then there was Kirk Hammett’s guitar tone, which sucked. Solos were also hacked and slashed.

Very, very unimpressive. You can cleanse yourself by watching this:
