Hatebreed: Live Dominance (2008) – Yell! Magazine’s Full Concert Series

Hatebreed is one of those bands that you either love or hate, and there seems to be a lot more haters than lovers. In reality, though, I have a feeling that Hatebreed suffers from Michael Jackson Syndrome, meaning that a lot more people like them than are admitting to it.

As the performance embedded above demonstrates, which is Hatebreed’s 2008 Live Dominance DVD release, there’s a lot to like about this band. For one, it’s brutally honest high-energy metal. It’s so violently energetic that it’s like experiencing what Tony Montana did after he packed his face full of cocaine. What Hatebreed delivers is a savage mix of hardcore (as in New York) and hardcore (as in Suicidal Tendencies) with extreme metal (as in Pantera), with elements of thrash and maybe a hint of some Rage Against The Machine influence.

Hatebreed formed back in 1994, and after a split and an EP they released their first full-length, Satisfaction is the Death of Desire, in 1997. Since then, they’ve released five more albums and shared the stage with some of heavy metal’s heaviest hitters, such as Slayer, Deftones, Entombed, Slipknot, Lacuna Coil, Disturbed, System of a Down, and more.

As a side note, Hatebreed has been nominated for a Grammy award and has been mistakenly associated with the White Power movement by CNN. Also, Hatebreed is into Mixed Martial Arts, being a supporter of UFC Middleweight Chris Camozzi.
