Remakes, reboots, and reimaginations are Hollywood’s way of flipping the bird off to you since they are still too afraid to invest in something completely new. Well, I know that’s not entirely true since there have been a few refreshing films as of late, but just don’t ask me to name any because I can’t roll one off the top of my head right now. Let’s say the effort hasn’t been a high priority.
Anyway, there’s been talk about remaking The Birds for many years now. In case you don’t know, The Birds is another classic that helped Alfred Hitchcock pioneer techniques in the suspense and psychological thriller genres. It now seems like the project is unofficially moving forward now that a director has been tapped to take on the big project. According to various sources, Dutch director Diederik Van Rooijen is ready to helm the remake of The Birds, which is being produced by Michael Bay’s production company, Platinum Dunes, and Mandalay Pictures. Naomi Watts is rumored to possibly play Tippi Hedren, the film’s lead role.
That’s all the scoop we know so far on the remake. So make sure you check back on Yell! Magazine for many more updates to come.
The Birds:
Nothing equals The Birds for sheer terror when Alfred Hitchcock unleashes his foul friends in one of his most shocking and memorable masterpieces. As beautiful blonde Melanie Daniels (Tippi Hedren) rolls into Bodega Bay in pursuit of eligible bachelor Mitch Brenner (Rod Taylor), she is inexplicably attacked by a seagull. Suddenly, thousands of birds are flocking into town, preying on schoolchildren and residents in a terrifying series of attacks. Soon, Mitch and Melanie are fighting for their lives against a deadly force that can’t be explained and can’t be stopped in one of Hollywood’s most horrific films of nature-gone-berserk.
