Earlier this week, the heavy metal community was shocked to learn that Angela Gossow had stepped down from her position at the front of Arch Enemy. As we reported, she hasn’t stepped away from the band entirely as she will be handling business and management. German-born Gossow has been one of the most powerful female vocalists in melodic death metal, inspiring many other female singers to take the craft seriously (including Arch Enemy’s new vocalist, Alissa White-Gluz), and even holding speaking engagements where she discussed the art of growling. Gossow is also an activist for animal and human rights.
Nonetheless, we thought we’d take a moment to honor her and all she accomplished for women of metal with a quick photo retrospective.
