It’s always good to hear a good Dio tribute, and Metallica has done just that, for the Dio tribute album, Ronnie James Dio – This Is Your Life. With the new tease from Metallica’s new album and now this, I’m quite satisfied that this year will see a lot of good metal releases.
Metallica couldn’t choose just one song to cover and decided to do a medley. They covered “Stargazer,” “Tarot Woman,” “A Light in the Black,” and “Kill the King.” I must say, this was probably one of the best covers I’ve heard in a long time. Lars had stated in Revolver Magazine that they had recorded this over two years ago. Apparently this was in the works already.
Metallica, Motörhead, Corey Taylor, Tenacious D, Scorpions, Anthrax, Rob Halford, and Killswitch Engage are among the artists set to be featured.
This Is Your Life is set for release on March 31st, but I’ve also read that it will be out on April 1st. The tribute album features all-star cover versions of songs by the late heavy metal frontman, who passed away from cancer in 2010. Dio performed with a host of acts in his lifetime, including Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Heaven & Hell, and Dio.
The album will raise money for the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund and has been produced by his manager and wife Wendy Dio.
