UFC Finds Headliner For UFC 173

Renan Barao

Like we said in our previous post about UFC 173, we knew it wouldn’t take long for the UFC to find a replacement fight for the main event for the card after Chris Weidman was forced to pull out of the title defence against Lyoto Machida because of a knee injury.

Believe it or not, UFC Bantamweight Champion Renan Barao stepped up to the plate and will now face No. 5 ranked bantamweight contender T.J. Dillashaw in the main event of UFC 173 on May 24, 2014. Which is kind of surprising since Barao just defeated Dillashaw’s teammate Urijah Faber at UFC 169 in February. Personally speaking, I think it’s a big mistake for Dillashaw to take this fight on short notice since his overall skillset is still less superior than Faber’s, who got whooped by Barao twice already.

Dillashaw was originally scheduled to fight Takeya Mizugaki on the UFC 173 card, but a replacement for Mizugaki is still in the works. In the meantime, check out the updated card right below.
