British Power Metalers, DragonForce have just announced that a new album is on the way and are streaming the album’s first demo track, “Defenders.”
The new album, Maximum Overload, is the second album with new singer Marc Hudson, who first appeared on 2011’s The Power Within. The album has a street date set for August 18th in the UK and August 19th in the U.S.
Miximum Overload, produced by Jens Bogren, is near completion, and features an exciting guest appearance from Trivium’s Matt Heafy. Bassist Frederic Leclercq commented on Heafy’s appearance:
We’ve always gotten on really well with the Trivium guys and it was great when Matt had a couple of days to spare and agreed to weigh in on some of the songs!
In addition to the Heafy surprise, DragonForce will include their first ever cover song on the album. Guitarist Sam Totman explained:
Just before the last Australian tour, our manager suggested it might be interesting to do a cover for the next album, something we’ve always refused even to consider. Because we had all had a couple beers every band member wrote down 3 songs each and we compared them all, just for a laugh. I wrote down ‘Ring Of Fire’ by Johnny Cash, an idea which the rest of the band loved, so we’ve DragonForce-ized it.
From a somewhat mundane and uninspired source, the album’s title and cover were inspired by the band’s observations while sitting in an airport departure lounge. They noticed that there were information screens all around them in the lounge and that nobody was talking because everybody was looking at their own personal screens (tablets, laptops, phones, etc.). So their conclusion was that there’s no escaping the information overload, hence Maximum Overload. Kind of boring, I know… and a bit late.
Pre-orders, videos, and new music will be available at metalblade.com this summer. A full World Tour in support of the new album will commence in the UK in September 2014.
