Watch The First Official Trailer For Guillermo del Toro’s The Strain [VIDEO]

After directing Blade 2, the pinnacle of cinema as an art form, you’d think it would be hard for Guillermo del Toro to continue. But he pressed on, despite critics, other filmmakers, and friends worrying that there was really nowhere to go since he’d had Wesley Snipes trick Norman Reedus into blowing himself up. Against all odds, del Toro eventually delivered things like the Hellboy films, Pan’s Labyrinth, and Pacific Rim to us. And if you think I’m being sarcastic with any of this, I’m not. Blade 2 is great.

The latest in del Toro’s Easter basket of projects is The Strain TV series, based on the novels that he wrote with Chuck Hogan. And today, we got the latest teaser for the series, which hits, what I’m guessing, is the quota for dead bodies necessary in a trailer for a show about vampires. While the novels definitely have their faults, I’m looking forward to the series, as horror TV is in the height of a renaissance right now, with Hannibal, The Walking Dead, Sleepy Hollow, Bates Motel, and Penny Dreadful all reaching varying degrees of critical and commercial success. Adding one more to the mass is not a bad thing in the least, especially when it’s from Guillermo del Toro, a man unmatched in his passion for the fantasy/horror genre.

The Strain is set to premiere on FX on July 13th, 2014.
