First Conjuring Spin-Off Slated For October 2014

Annabelle

James Wan’s The Conjuring was a box office hit that earned more than 41.5 million on opening weekend. With earnings like that, it made sense for Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema to move forward with a sequel, including numerous spin-offs. There have been three spin-offs in the talk with one already well into production, filming actually got rolling on January 27, 2014 in Los Angeles.

The first spin-off on the horizon is Annabelle, a haunted doll that was featured in the collection of demonic objects collected by the paranormal investigators in The Conjuring. The doll was slightly introduced in the movie, but it was enough to convince producer Peter Safran and executive producer James Wan to make an entire movie based on the doll alone.

John R. Leonetti is directing Annabelle from a script that was written by Gary Dauberman with Annabelle Wallis (The Tudors) and Ward Horton (One Life to Live) in lead roles. It’s officially slated for release in theaters on October 3rd, 2014. The Conjuring 2 drops in theaters a few weeks later, but just in time for Halloween.
