After months of rumors, former UFC welterweight fighter Paul Daley finally announced yesterday via Ariel Helwani’s MMA Hour his decision to return to the States and even inked a deal with a large MMA promotion.
Daley revealed that a deal is sealed with Bellator MMA under President Scott Coker.
I’m going to be returning to Bellator, working with Scott Coker. He’s a terrific guy. I’ve had some great fights while I was there with him at Strikeforce, and I’ll be headed back this year, smashing some heads, knocking some people out and coming for (Bellator welterweight champion) Douglas Lima.
However, details of the actual contract with Bellator MMA is still unknown, but Daley did say he will be fighting big fights and won’t be obligated to enter the previous tournament structure that Bjorn Rebney put in place for years in Bellator.
There’s also no word yet on who his first opponent will be, but you can expect him to fight in Bellator before the end of the year.
Daley will also go up against Brazilian submission ace Igor Fernandes on September 13 to headline BAMMA 16, which is most likely his last fight with the UK based MMA promotion.
