If you know me personally, then you know that I’ve recently developed an obsession with the idea of injuries as they relate to musicians and actors or directors. Whatever the injury is, from a finger split open on a fretboard to a broken leg to a concussion to a gnarly and bloody gash, I want to know about it.
So, when I read that Chris AhKao, singer and guitarist for the post rock metal band Disparager had fractured his L2 vertebrae, I knew I had to learn a bit more and share with you guys. Turns out that it’s not that big of a deal and Chris will be back to form soon. For now, however, Disparager’s upcoming show on July 27th, at The Acheron in NYC, is cancelled.
Chris has posted a video to his Facebook explaining the situation.
Earlier this month, Disparager posted the lyric video for “R.I.P. Bill Hicks,” which comes of the band’s debut EP, Timeless, Ageless. Check out the video in the player above. Chris has explained the meaning of the song:
“R.I.P. Bill Hicks is about letting go of something that is wrong for you, even if the act of letting go, the decision to let go, and everything leading up to that decision is hard. Comfort and familiarity are nice, but allowing those feelings to steer your life treads dangerously close to living in fear. Our days are precious and few and we must decide what is worth our time.
