A tribute to the old hardcore sound. Obliterations have released a new track that not only pays homage to the greats of hardcore, but also blasts away the idea that bands in this day and age cannot reach that level. The track “The One That Got Away” is off of the band’s upcoming LP, Poison Everything, due out October 28th, via Southern Lord. The scratchy bass riff kicks off the call to war, with the drums leading the charge with vicious snare hits. The guitars are quick-paced, altering chord progressions with a shredding solo in the bridge.
The vocals are higher pitched, reminiscent of a death metal approach to screaming. They are sharp and energetic, never losing pace or ferocity throughout the whole track. The one complaint I have is that the album is not out, because the song is only just shy of two minutes long. While waiting for the album, go out and see the band slaughter the West Coast starting October 15th, with Baptists and Torch Runner.
