After Bellator MMA announced the release of Eddie Alvarez on Tuesday, it took the UFC less than 12 hours to slate the former Bellator lightweight champion for a fight in September. That’s right! Eddie has officially signed an exclusive deal with the UFC and his first fight will take place in the co-main event of UFC 178 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The rumor turned out to be true. Eddie’s first UFC challenge is Donald Cerrone in a lightweight bout; however, he clearly stated his deal had nothing to do with him. Eddie is here for the UFC lightweight title and he plans to destroy everyone who crosses his path for it.
My deal has nothing to do with Cowboy Cerrone or any of these guys in the division, for that matter, I want the title and whoever’s in front of me at that time, bottom line I’m coming out to destroy them. I’m coming after them.
