The very first trailer for Amityville: The Awakening has crash landed yesterday, which is the 12th movie in the Amityville Horror saga, written and directed this time by Franck Khalfoun (Maniac).
After watching the trailer, we quickly noticed The Awakening follows similar story elements as the 1982 prequel, Amityville II: The Possession. Evil house possesses teenage kid and makes him go on a killing rampage at the end of the movie. Maybe Khalfoun’s newest sequel won’t exactly go down like that, but we do see many similarities to the 1982 classic. In fact, Awakening references the massacre that took place in The Possession, and completely dismisses the events in the 1974 original. So, don’t be shocked to see old ideas from The Possession returning in Awakening.
The Possession is my favorite in the Amityville franchise, which means I’m actually really looking forward to The Awakening, even if it looks like the same old story. But I’m sure Khalfoun changed it up enough to make it worthwhile to watch all over again.
