Last week, MMA Fighting reported that discussions of a UFC middleweight bout between Lyoto Machida and Luke Rockhold are currently under way, but with Michael Bisping’s one-sided win against Cung Le over the weekend in Macau, China, it now appears that Rockhold has a lot more interest in fighting the brit.
The rivalry between Bisping (25-6) and Rockhold (12-2) started two years ago when Rockhold held the middleweight strap in STRIKEFORCE. So, hearing them talk trash over Twitter is nothing new these days, but with Bisping’s big TKO win over Le, a fight between the two strikers before the end of the year makes most sense to everyone, including them.
Bisping called out Rockhold at UFC Fight Night 48, who happened to be at cageside:
There’s an idiot called Luke Rockhold who doesn’t stop talking about me, I think he has the hots for me, to be honest. Luke Rockhold, you’re calling me out. If you want to do it, let’s dance. Here I am. I’m going to beat Luke Rockhold and then I’m taking the title. Make no mistake.
On Friday, Rockhold told MMA Junkie that he is confident he could finish Bisping in the first round:
Bisping is grossly overpaid, comparably to where we are, So, I bet Michael Bisping, if I don’t finish you in the first round, you can have my purse. But if I do finish you in the first round, you give me your purse. So if I don’t finish you in the first round, whether I beat you in a decision or what, you get both of our purses. But if I do finish you in the first round, we switch purses, and I get yours.
Let’s see if you’ve got some balls, kid. Bring it
The UFC has not officially announced their next match up inside the Octagon; however the hunch within the MMA community is Bisping vs. Rockhold.
