Despite the negative things Ben Askren (14-0) said to Dana White after the UFC declined to sign a multi-fight deal with him last year, the UFC president finally revealed on Saturday night after UFC 177 that Askren can get a shot in the UFC, but ONLY if he keeps winning his fights.
Yeah, if he keeps winning, he can get a shot over here.
In addition, White pointed out that he doesn’t hold any personal feelings toward any fighter and used former UFC light heavyweight champion and UFC Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz as a prime example:
Ben Askren said a lot of stupid s— when he left (Bellator), but I don’t care about stuff like that, I could care less about stuff like that. We’ll see how the kid fights. Contrary to belief, well, I do hold grudges forever if you’re a real idiot, I’ll hold a grudge until the day you drop dead, but I don’t hold a grudge against fighters.
If Tito Ortiz can come back to the UFC, anyone can, because there’s nobody I hated more than Tito and Tito came back.
After Asken’s release from Bellator MMA in November 2013, the all-American wrestler signed with ONE Fighting Championship (ONE FC) over a World Series of Fighting offer. Askren continues to dominate the welterweight division and currently holds the welterweight strap in ONE FC after defeating Nobutatsu Suzuki last month by TKO (punches) in the very first round.
The question now is, how many wins will it take White to sign Askren in the UFC? Drop your thoughts off in the comments section below.
