The word is officially out! UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman (12-0) will not defend his belt against No.1 middleweight contender Vitor Belfort (24-10) at UFC 181 in Las Vegas. According to UFC.com, Weidman sustained a hand injury in training and has been forced off the main event, which is scheduled to take place on December 6, 2014.
As a result, the UFC quickly replaced the main event at UFC 181 with a five-round welterweight title fight between current champion Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler. The fight that will serve as a rematch to their hotly contested title fight in March, a bout narrowly won by Hendricks. In the co-main event, The Ultimate Fighter, Season 20 coaches, Anthony Pettis and Gilbert Melendez, will square off in another five-round lightweight title fight.
The rest of the UFC 181 fight card will be announced by the UFC shortly. Stay tuned to Yell! Magazine for the update.
