Don’t you just love how video games have become a part of the Halloween tradition.

No.5 Dark Meadow: The Pact

itunes.apple.com

This one is a couple of years old, and honestly the mechanics look like a game from N64 with better graphics. However, the ambiance is terrifying. Plus it was nominated for mobile game of the year in 2012 and it’s now free to play.

Synopsis:
You awake in a hospital uncertain of how you arrived there or why. An old man warns of a beautiful witch whose minions roam the halls seeking the living. It is only when the witch is destroyed that you will be released from this unrelenting torment.

No.4 Z Hunter – War of The Dead

play.google.com

If you fancy yourself a sharp-shooter, at least on your smartphone, and you think you have what it takes to survive a zombie apocalypse, then Z Hunter – War of the Dead might be the game for you. And with more than 150 missions, that get progressively more difficult, and a great arsenal of weapons, you’ll find yourself nose-deep in this one for hours on end.

Synopsis:
Humanity has been destroyed and your duty as an ex-marine is clear: seek and destroy all zombies and save the few remaining survivors. The further you get in the game, the more challenging the environments get and the stronger the zombies become. Expose the hidden zombies with the latest generation radars and upgrade your arsenal to kill the most dangerous zombies with just one shot!

No.3 Murder Room

play.google.com

This psychological horror adventure consistently gets great reviews, and with good reason. There are plenty of ways something could go wrong with this game, but no matter what it delivers the scares in a SAW meets Texas Chain Saw Massacre way. The sound effects are gruesome, the noise is unnerving, and the whole thing is just macabre as hell.

Synopsis:
You are being hunted by a serial killer. Do you have what it takes to stay sane and escape?

No.2 The Walking Dead: Season Two

play.google.com

We’re all crazy for zombies, and the vast majority of us are crazy for the AMC program, The Walking Dead. So why not get crazy for Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead: Season Two?

Synopsis:
The Walking Dead: Season Two is a five-part (Episodes 2 and 3 can be purchased in-app, Episodes 4 and 5 will be available to purchase and download later this Summer) game series that continues the story of Clementine, a young girl orphaned by the undead apocalypse. Left to fend for herself, she has been forced to learn how to survive in a world gone mad. Many months have passed since the events seen in Season One of The Walking Dead, and Clementine is searching for safety. But what can an ordinary child do to stay alive when the living can be just as bad – and sometimes worse – than the dead? As Clementine, you will be tested by situations and dilemmas that will test your morals and your instinct for survival. Your decisions and actions will change the story around you, in this sequel to 2012’s Game of the Year.

No.1 The Abandoned School

play.google.com

If there’s any game on this list that should fill the shoes left by Slender Man, it’s this one. Full of creepy atmosphere, unknown whereabouts, horrifying children singing and giggling, this puzzle adventure game with jump scares will have you in sweats if you play it in a dark, quiet room.
