Today, Warner Bros. Enterainment has released the official launch trailer for the highly anticipated Mortal Kombat X, which promises to be the most brutal and bloodiest game in franchise history. What throws this trailer over the top, however, is the killer use of System of a Down‘s 2001 hit, “Chop Suey!” If you’re thinking that a fantastic job was done of syncing the action to the breaks in the song, there’s a reason for that; SOAD’s own Shavo Odadjian (bass) directed the trailer! That’s a pretty big responsibility, putting the game’s official launch trailer in the hands of someone relatively outside the video game industry, but Shavo has experience directing and editing music videos, and I have to say his direction of the Mortal Kombat X launch trailer is among the best gaming trailers I’ve ever seen!
Mortal Kombat X will be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on April 14th, and for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this summer.
