Psycho California, the West Coast’s preeminent heavy music festival, which runs May 15th to 17th, at The Observatory, has announced The Road To Psycho, a week of shows leading up to the 3-day, 50-plus band event.
The Road To Psycho features the buzziest new bands in the world of doom and heavy music including Elder, Stoned Jesus, and Electric Citizen with Dead Meadow joining the lineup in San Diego and both Earth and True Widow playing the Pappy & Harriet’s outing. Elder recently released Lore, a new album Stereogum said “is something to behold, something to be awed by, a new apex.” Stoned Jesus, the Ukrainian trio who make their U.S. debut with the May 7th show, have been hailed for their “hypnotic blend of stoner metal with influences of doom, fuzz, and ‘70s classic hard rock” (The Sludgelord). Electric Citizen, the third act on all seven of the Road to Psycho shows, evoke a “connection to the West Coast psychedelic scene of the late 1960s. You can almost sniff Moby Grape…” said Metal Hammer in their review of the band’s debut album, Sateen.
