The Rock Wants John Carpenter and Kurt Russell To Help Out With The Remake Of Big Trouble in Little China

Big Trouble in Little China

Last week, EW broke the news in Hollywood on bringing back Jack Burton in a remake of John Carpenter’s cult classic, Big Trouble in Little China. It was news that kind of left us scratching our heads and feeling disappointed because the worst part of this developing story is that Dwayne Johnson, a.k.a. The Rock, has his eyes set on playing Jack, previously played by Kurt Russell.

Since the news was reported, fans of the 1986 original have been both positive and negative about the remake. In a recent interview with EW, Johnson expressed that he understands how many fans feel about the remake of Big Trouble in Little China because he is also a big fan of the action-adventure movie. The Rock is now really hoping to bring Carpenter on board to some capacity for the remake.

It felt like if we surrounded ourselves with the right group of people, the right writers who loved the movie too and wanted to honor it, bring on John Carpenter in some capacity … If we did that, then we have a shot at hopefully making something good.

Besides working with closely with Carpenter, Johnson also talked about bringing in Kurt Russell for some input on the movies story and style. There’s still no word yet on how Carpenter and Russell feel about the remake, but at least it sounds like Johnson is pushing for quality with his creative team, otherwise he will completely drop the project rather than force it to the finish line.

If things pan out, the remake of Big Trouble in Little China will be produced by Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia at 20th Century Fox.
