Westworld doesn’t have much horror elements, but it’s a dark story with lots of sci-fi elements such as lifelike artificial intelligence set sometime in the near future in three themed “worlds” — West World (the American Old West), Medieval World (medieval Europe), and Roman World (the pre-Christian city of Pompeii). Each world features an amusement park populated with AI’s and guests may indulge in any adventure with them, including sexual encounters and even a fight to the death, depending on the AI model.
It’s bizarre and kind of sounds like Paul Verhoeven’s Total Recall, but it’s Westworld and HBO is bringing us an updated TV series based on Michael Crichton’s original 1973 film. A teaser has been released giving us an early look at the star-studded series ahead of its 2016 debut.
The one-hour drama series stars Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Rodrigo Santoro, Shannon Woodward, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Ben Barnes, Jimmi Simpson, Clifton Collins, Jr., Simon Quarterman and Angela Sarafyan.
