Since it was announced a few days ago, you’ve probably already heard the big news coming out of CBS. If you haven’t yet heard, and you call yourself a Trekkie, then I’m pleased to inform you that the network is bringing to life a new Star Trek series!
That’s right! But you’ll have to wait just over a year (look to January 2017) for it to hit your… CBS All Access channel?!? Yup, other than a special preview broadcast on the CBS Television Network, if you live in the United States, you’ll have to have the network’s digital subscription video on-demand and live streaming service to watch. If you live elsewhere, don’t worry; CBS Studios International will distribute the new series for television and other platforms around the world.
But enough about that. What’s the deal with the new Star Trek series?
The New Star Trek:
Well, as StarTrek.com states:
The brand-new Star Trek will introduce new characters seeking imaginative new worlds and new civilizations, while exploring the dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise since its inception in 1966.
Alex Kurtzman, the pen behind Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), and Heather Kadin will be executive producing, and both CBS Television Studios and Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout will be producing.
Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek has inspired and influenced generations, and in just under a year the franchise will celebrate its 50th anniversary since first airing on September 8, 1966. With the movie franchise reborn and a birthday, it makes perfect sense to launch a new television series… especially since we’re all locked on the small screen for so many excellent programs.
