Oranssi Pazuzu, the Finnish psychedelic black metal outfit, has released the first track, “Hypnotisoitu Viharukous,” from their upcoming album, Värähtelijä, which will be released on February 29th. The track starts off with fuzzed out guitars and a ton of distortion, sounding like an exploration into the deepest depths of the universe. Drums set in and build until Jun-His enters with his screaming vocals, and, maybe best of all, the pulsing synth echoes the score to a horror movie. Add some flute-sounding instrumentation after some wavy surfer jamming, and you have a complete hodgepodge of sound that somehow works well together. Book ending the track is a magnificent drifting soundscape with echoing water drops in, what I’m going to continue to call, space.
