Its official boys and girls! UFC 196 has been saved by Nate Diaz. The Stockton bad boy will be stepping inside the Octagon against Conor McGregor in the main event of UFC 196 following Rafael dos Anjos retreat on Tuesday, due to a foot injury.
A few good hours later, UFC President Dana White announced via ESPN’s SportsCenter that Diaz will replace dos Anjos and that the bout will take place at welterweight. McGregor’s dream of becoming the first fighter to ever hold two UFC belts in different weight classes at the same time was shattered on Tuesday after multiple reports claim that dos Anjos suffered a broken foot during training. Apparently, Diaz was always a top choice over Donald Cerrone and Urijah Faber because he is extremely popular with fans, plus he is coming off a big unanimous decision win over Michael Johnson at UFC on FOX 17 in December.
UFC 196: McGregor vs. Diaz will still take place on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
