UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier Injured, Out Of UFC 197

Jones vs. Cormier

UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier is itching to step inside the Octagon to face Jon Jones again, but that won’t be happening later this month, as initially scheduled. It sounds like the UFC 197 title fight will need to be pushed back a few weeks or months.

According to multiple online media outlets, Cormier was forced to pull out of UFC 197 due to a foot injury, which might have occurred during training earlier this week. Cormier hasn’t made an official comment yet, but we do expect it to come very soon.

As for Jones, it’s still unclear at the moment if he will remain on the UFC 197 fight card. UFC officials are most likely looking for an opponent as we speak, and there is plenty of other potential match ups available in the light heavyweight division. Perhaps a rematch with Alexander Gustafsson or face Anthony Johnson, who already showed interest to fight at UFC 197 this week when Jones was arrested for a probation violation.
