As expected by many fans, King Kong will be stepping up to the plate in the late future to face the King of Toho monsters, Godzilla. Before the epic rumble happens, the gargantuan gorilla will first appear in Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ Kong: Skull Island slated for 2017. Plus, Godzilla will be handling business again in the sequel to 2014’s Godzilla, which has now been postponed to March 22, 2019.
So there’s tons of monster mayhem happening before Godzilla officially squares off against King Kong. The wait for the epic showdown is going to be long, but at least Legendary and Warner Bros. are sweetening the wait with a few in between films. In addition, there’s Japan’s version, Godzilla: Resurgence, heading to theaters in July. So there’s no short abundance of monster films to come.
So in the following years, fans will need to wait, but they will be rewarded with a showdown between iconic colossal creatures in Godzilla vs. Kong, which has been scheduled for a May 29th, 2020 theatrical release.
