The man who stopped Anderson Silva’s reign in the middleweight division for six consecutive years won’t be getting his rematch with newly minted UFC champion Luke Rockhold after all.
Following his title loss to Rockhold at UFC 194, Chris Weidman was expected to get his immediate rematch at UFC 199. But it appears like training camp got the better of Weidman.
According to MMA Fighitng, Weidman was forced to withdraw from the main event of UFC 199 this week due to an injury. The report was initially confirmed by Talk MMA and there’s no word yet on the type of injury Weidman suffered in camp.
The UFC is still currently looking for a replacement fight for Rockhold. There’s talk that Ronaldo Souza and Michael Bisping are in the running for the shot at the title.
Training camps separate the boys from the men. This sport isn't for everyone. 2 weeks notice? I'm down!!! @ufc #realfighter #fightersfighter
