With Amnesia Rockfest 2016 just over a week away (see below for dates and location), we thought it was time to remind you how just not to behave at a big outdoor heavy metal and punk rock music festival… specifically this one.
As you may know, Rockfest is one of Canada’s premiere festivals, drawing thousands upon thousands of fans to the remote town of Montebello, Quebec. Since it’s in the middle of nowhere and it’s a multi-day event, no one wants you driving home intoxicated and tired, so the fine folks of this municipality allow for camping… and that’s pretty much anywhere.
As a result, this comes with a host of unique dos and don’ts for this event.
5. Don’t Drink and Drive
As alluded to above, there’s no need for driving, so why risk it even for the smallest of purposes. I’m not going to lie and say that everything is within walking distance, because it’s not. In fact, you might find yourself hoofing it for a couple of miles to get to the nearest corner store (or depanneur, as it’s called in Quebec). However, the festival offers a shuttle service in and out of town. Plus the main road is packed with people, and if you’re not at your frostiest, you won’t be prepared for surprises jumping out at you.
4. Don’t Be a Dick Neighbor
Yes, this is a festival that goes into the wee hours of the morning, but that doesn’t mean that people aren’t trying to sleep. So, party at your camping location, but keep your volumes down, respect the regulations, don’t piss near any tents, and don’t fall into any tents causing them to fold.
Also respect the host population who have been kind enough to rent you a spot of land.
3. Don’t Be a Creep
Guys. Alcohol. Hot Girls. Guys, don’t stalk or be obnoxious. I’m not going to get into the more violent stuff (you should know better), but everyone is here to have a good time and enjoy good music… nothing more.
And if you see someone who’s clearly uncomfortable with their would-be Casanova, step in and help.
2. Don’t Party Beyond Reason
It’s an outdoor heavy metal and punk rock music festival, obviously we’re not going to behave like we’re in Sunday school. But keep in mind you limitations, and remember that it’s summer; the sun is out, the temperatures are high, and no one needs heat stroke.
1. Don’t Disrespect Johnny Law
There is a police force on patrol at Amnesia Rockfest, and they’ve always been very tolerant. They’re basically there for safety, because in all honesty, they can’t haul everyone off to jail. Open containers, drunken conduct, public urination, it’s all pretty much overlooked, so when they ask you to do or not to do something, please oblige.
Amnesia Rockfest takes place June 23rd to June 26th, in Montebello, Quebec. Visit AmnesiaRockfest.com for lodging arrangements.
