Universal Trying To Tap Javier Bardem As Frankenstein For Monster Movies

Javier Bardem to Play Frankenstein

Horror hounds will be happy to hear that Universal is getting close to tapping another mega Hollywood star to play a key role in upcoming monster movies based on Mary Shelley’s classic 18th century novels.

We previously reported Russell Crowe will portray the classic literary characters Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde alongside Tom Cruise in the universe’s inaugural film, The Mummy. If you missed the casting news on Cruise, well, he is officially on board to play a special forces soldier in the horror picture.

Now, THR is reporting that Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men) is in early negotiations to potentially star as Frankenstein in the studio’s cinematic universe. At the moment, it’s still unclear if Bardem will officially portray either Dr. Frankenstein or Frankenstein’s monster, but the actor is expected to appear in the overall rebooted. Apparently, Bardem was up for the role of Jekyll/Hyde, but the part ultimately went Crowe.
