Last night in the main event of UFC 204 it was Dan Henderson final night competing for a belt in MMA. It’s official! The former Pride champion in two different weight classes, the first ever, has hung up his MMA gloves in Manchester, England.
Henderson was hoping for UFC gold, unfortunately he fell a little short. The judges gave the win to Michael Bisping, won the fight via unanimous decision (48-47, 48-47, 49-46) and successfully defended the UFC Middleweight championship.
Following his announcement to retire during the UFC 204 post-fight Octagon interview, UFC President Dana White said Henderson is one of the “toughest guys to ever do” MMA.
At his age now — what is he, is he 46? — he’s 46; I’m 47, I can barely get on a treadmill in the morning, let alone go in and fight five-round main events in another country. Dan Henderson is an absolute warrior, one of the toughest guys to ever do it, and he’s still scary at this age and everything. If he didn’t want to retire today, he’s still scary to people in that division.
At the time of his retirement, Henderson was the oldest fighter currently on the UFC roster. He holds 32 wins in a total of 47 fights.
