On Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour with Arial Helwani, former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre publically announced that he is a free agent and has no ties anymore with the UFC.
However, that doesn’t appear to be true with his former employer. According to the UFC, GSP still remains under Zuffa contract and also implied there could be a legal battle in the near future.
The UFC released the following statement,
Georges St-Pierre remains under an existing agreement with Zuffa, LLC as his MMA promoter. Zuffa intends to honor its agreement with St-Pierre and reserves its rights under the law to have St-Pierre do the same.
Apparently, GSP said that his lawyer terminated his contract with the UFC after a legal deadline for the promotion to offer him a fight passed. GSP was hoping to headline the UFC 206 fight card in Toronto, but it never came to fruition after the UFC was purchased by WME-IMG.
At the moment, GSP is completely uncertain about his future in MMA.
