MMA veteran Fedor Emelianenko is back in business. Following a 6 years hiatus from competing in the US, Emelianenko will be officially stepping back inside the cage on U.S. soils in the not too distant future.
During Saturday night’s Bellator 165 event, play-by-play announcer Sean Grande revealed that Emelianenko had signed a multi-fight deal with Bellator MMA. In addition, his opponent was also officially announced. Ex-UFC heavyweight Matt Mitrione will take on the legendary Russian champion at Bellator 172 in San Jose, California.
Mitrione has been competing in Bellator since June 2016. The former Ultimate Fighter contestant recently defeated Carl Seumanutafa and Oli Thompson back to back. Most of his wins have been by knockout. Emelianenko has five consecutive wins in the bank since 2011 over MMA giants; Fábio Maldonado, Singh Jaideep, Pedro Rizzo, Satoshi Ishii and Jeff Monson.
Bellator 172 will take place on February 18, 2017.
