After retiring from professional wrestling in 2014, CM Punk pursued mixed martial arts where his initial plan was to plant in his first pro win in the UFC. Unfortunately, his fight ended a little short and so it seemed like his MMA career was over too.
His first professional fight took place on September 10, 2016, at UFC 203 against Mickey Gall, where he lost via submission early in the first round. Following the loss, Punk stayed away from numerous interview offers and made no official comment about his future in the UFC until today.
In an interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, Punk revealed that there has been discussions with UFC President Dana White about a possible next move. In fact, Punk feels “pretty confident” that he’ll get another shot in the UFC.
Punk said,
I don’t want to speak for him, but I think if he wants to kill it, he would have killed it right then. Until anything is official, I don’t want to say either way what he’s thinking or what he’s thinking. But yeah, I’m pretty confident that it’ll be in the UFC.
In addition, Punk also said that he hopes to return as early as January or February.
I told him I want to fight again. We’re back at it. We’re back to the drawing board. So, it’s up to him. He floated me an idea and we’re kind of going back and forth on it right now.
What do you think? Should the UFC allow him to fight another time? Let us know in the comment section below.
