With the rematch between Fabricio Werdum and Cain Velasquez off of UFC 207 because the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) ruled Velasquez “unfit to fight.” The former Brazilian heavyweight champion is now itching for a rematch with the current champion, Stipe Miocic.
In a recent interview with MMA Fighting, Werdum believes a rematch with Miocic makes the most sense right now after defeating Travis Browne at UFC 203.
Werdum said,
That would be fair, Cain Velasquez didn’t show up for the title eliminator bout, and he won’t be able to fight in a while, so I’d rather wait and fight for the belt next. I’m the No. 1 contender, that’s the logical choice. Cain Velasquez won’t fight for a long time, so it’s fair to make me against Stipe Miocic in 2017.
He added,
I think I deserved an immediate rematch, and they didn’t make it, but now I think it’s time to make this fight. Whenever he comes back, I’ll be ready for him. My focus was always the belt.
At the moment, there’s no UFC announcement on what’s next for Miocic, but Werdum used his photoshopping skills to promote the unofficial rematch with the champion.
