Since Virtual Reality is picking up some steam this year, the rights holders to the 1992 sci-fi cult classic The Lawnmower Man are feeling the need to revive the film into a multi-episode virtual reality series.
That’s right! Multiple online sources are confirming that Jaunt, a cinematic VR company, have partnered with rights owners Jim Howell and Rupert Harvey to produce a reboot of The Lawnmower Man for VR headsets. For obvious reasons, it’s being reported that actor Pierce Brosnan who starred in the film is not attached to the reboot in any shape or form. So don’t expect to see him entrapped in a VR world where he once outsmarted Jobe Smith, a local greenskeeper with an intellectual disability, who’s virtual avatar became very violent.
At the moment there’s no word if the series will pick up after the events of the original film or follow the path of the sequel, Lawnmower Man 2: Beyond Cyberspace. Or maybe pick up the pieces from the two video games: 1993’s Lawnmower Man and 1994’s Cyberwar.
The Lawnmower Man series doesn’t have a release date yet, but it’s expected to go into production sometime in 2017. Stay tuned to Yell! Magazine for much more updates to come.
