Canadian MMA veteran Rory MacDonald finally has a fight set for this year since his departure from the UFC in 2016. MacDonald will be officially challenged by a knockout artist in Bellator this May.
On Thursday, Bellator announced that they booked a fight between Paul Daley and MacDonald for the main event of Bellator 179 scheduled to take place at London’s SSE Arena. “Semtex” got his wish after calling out MacDonald during the Bellator 170 post-fight press conference earlier last month. MacDonald responded to Daley with a Zach Galifianakis video clip via Twitter. So I guess the Canadian mixed martial artist is taking the fight somewhat lightly.
Following wins over Andy Uhrich and Dennis Olson, Daley just defeated Brennan Ward at Bellator 179 while MacDonald has been on losing stint during his time in the UFC against Stephen Thompson and Robbie Lawler. However, he holds massive wins over UFC welterweight contender such as Tarec Saffiedine, Demian Maia, and current champion Tyron Woodley.
Bellator 179: Daley vs. MacDonald will air live on Spike TV on May 19, 2017.
