We finally have some word on Jon Jones’ long-awaited return inside the Octagon. It’s the biggest MMA news of the week, so here is what we know so far.
According to multiple online sources, including MMAFighting.com, the UFC is targeting a rematch between UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and former champion Jon Jones for UFC 214 in July. The highly-anticipated fight will headline the card after a co-main event, which is expected to be announced very soon.
Three days before UFC 200, Jones tested positive for two banned substances, Clomiphene and Letrozole, in an out-of-competition drug test conducted by USADA. Jones was expected to defend the 205-pound title against Cormier. Since their first match at UFC 182, Cormier has won four straight fights over top ranked UFC fighters such as Anthony Johnson, Alexander Gustafsson, and Anderson Silva. He just defended the title earlier this month against Johnson and won via submission (rear-naked choke).
UFC 214: Cormier vs. Jones 2 is targeted for July 29 in Anaheim, Calif.
