Dead Cross Unite Mike Patton And Dave Lombardo

If you’re from the school of Faith No More, and think Mike Patton is a vocal and musical genius, or if you’re a Slayer undergrad and minored in Dave Lombardo, then you should be excited about, and need to hear, these two working together on their new project, Dead Cross. The new band also features within its ranks Justin Pearson (The Locust, Retox) and Michael Crain (Retox, Festival of Dead Deer).

If your interest is piqued, head on over to RollingStone.com and sample the newly released track, “Grave Slave.” And, yes, the track is as abstract and beautiful as the title, but be warned if you’re unfamiliar with Patton’s insane approach to music — this might take a moment to sink into your skull.

“Grave Slave” is available as an instant download with album pre-orders, available here.

It’s true that Patton’s vocals are front and center on the track, but Lombardo is on fire as well, perhaps sounding hungrier than he’s been in years.

Dead Cross will release their self-titled debut album on August 4th, via Ipecac Recordings, of course.

Lombardo commented on the track and album:

‘Grave Slave’ is S&M for your ears. Patton’s vocal range and intensity are on full blast throughout this entire album. This song is a two-minute example of what it’s like to travel through the depths of his brain while JP, Crain, and myself commandeer the vehicle. It’s jarring, aggressive, and unsettling. We’re coming at you hardcore, but leaving you with a kiss.

Pearson added:

As the song states, we can blow out the candles on the urinal cake. A track like this only makes complete sense in this climate… absurdity, pigs, neo-fascist authoritarianism… the American dream is alive and well. Well, when the suits and white hoods screw the planet, you get this slab.

Dead Cross plays Riot Fest (Chicago) with more tour dates to be announced soon.
