For those of you unaware this morning will be saddened to hear that the Godfather of the living dead has passed away on Sunday.
George A. Romero died yesterday at 77 following an aggressive battle with lung cancer, according to his longtime producing partner Peter Grunwald. Apparently, at the time of Romero’s passing, the beloved director was with his family and was listening to his to his all-time favorite score, The Quiet Man (1952).
Romero has influenced horror filmmakers over the last few decades. He will be most remembered for inventing the modern zombie and helping the genre go mainstream. The horror director helmed countless horror films such as the Dead series, The Crazies (1973), Martin (1978), Creepshow (1982), and Monkey Shines (1988), just to name a small few.
Friend’s Stephen King and Greg Nicotero also shared remembrances and respects via Twitter,
