Bisping vs. St-Pierre Officially Booked For UFC 217

UFC 217: Bisping vs. St-Pierre

A little over two weeks ago, Georges St-Pierre revealed on Instagram that he inked a UFC bout agreement to fight Michael Bisping later this year. However, a fight card was never officially announced.

During the Mayweather vs. McGregor superfight on Saturday night, a UFC 217 promo video was released featuring UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping and GSP as the main event in November. The news is far from anything new, but it does make it formal following a few false starts. Previously, Bisping and St-Pierre were scheduled to fight earlier this year, but injuries postponed the fight. At one point UFC President Dana White even threatened to cancel it entirely.

Bisping was expected to face interim champion Robert Whittaker, but that never came to fruition due to a grade two medial ligament injury to the left knee sustained at UFC 213 against Cuban’s Yoel Romero. At the moment, Bisping successfully defended the belt once against Dan Henderson at UFC 204 in England. “The Count” initially won the UFC Middleweight Championship at UFC 199 by knocking out former champ Luke Rockhold in the very first round.

St-Pierre hasn’t been inside the Octagon since December 2013. The former reigning UFC welterweight champion has major wins over big names such as Johny Hendricks, Nick Diaz, Carlos Condit, Jake Shields, Josh Koscheck, and Dan Hardy, respectively. UFC 217 will be his first fight at 185-pounds.

UFC 217: Bisping vs. St-Pierre is slated for Nov 4th at the Madison Square Garden in New York.
