Japan’s MMA great Yushin Okami is back in the UFC mix. Following a four-fight win streak in various organizations across the globe, Okami is now set to return inside the Octagon this Friday.
Besides being fairly dominant since his UFC release in 2013, the Japanese mixed martial artist is scheduled to fight Ovince Saint Preux in the main event of UFC Saitama at Japan’s Saitama Super Arena this week. It’s being reported that the former one-time middleweight title challenger is replacing an injured opponent.
Initially, OSP was booked to face Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, but the Brazilian was forced to withdraw due to a knee injury he most likely suffered during his training camp. Shogun, 35, is still a dangerous force in the UFC, who is riding a three-fight win streak over Gian Villante, Corey Anderson, and Antônio Rogério Nogueira. The former light heavyweight champion was hoping for a fourth win in a rematch with OSP in Japan.
OSP will officially meet Okami on September 23 at UFC Fight Night 117.
