UFC 218: Alistair Overeem Gives Credit To Francis Ngannou After KO Loss

Alistair Overeem

Last night wasn’t an Alistair Overeem night, but rather a big win for up-and-coming UFC heavyweight star Francis Ngannou.

All hell broke loose early in the first round at UFC 218. Both heavyweights went to work as soon as the round started, however, Ngannou was first to manage a clean left uppercut from hell, which sent “The Reem” down to the canvas at 1:42. Following the quick knockout, Overeem just laid unconscious for moments.

Despite the scary loss, the Dutch mixed martial artist released a statement via Twitter, letting UFC fans know that he is healthy and even gave props to his opponent.

No damage and all healthy thankfully.. unfortunately lost today. Props to @francis_ngannou, I got hit with a uppercut from he**, one of his specialities which we new were very dangerous. Some chill time now before back to the drawing-board.

Ngannou, 31, snapped a two-fight win streak for Overeem, putting him at 8-5 in the UFC. The Cameroonian-French professional now hold six straight wins under the UFC umbrella. He holds notable wins over Bojan Mihajlović, Anthony Hamilton, and Andrei Arlovski, just to name a small few.
