by We’ve all seen the “reality” music TV competitions like American Idol and The Voice, and just about every nation in the world has its own version of them, so it’s extremely refreshing, damn near vindicating, to see a band take a punch at the absurdity of these shows that feed so much false hope down the throats of so many hopeful/desperate people.
Also, as a side note, these shows have created a generation of kids who gauge the value of a band, of a song, of performance based solely on the vocal delivery. Never mind anything else. For a lot of idiots, there could be a perfects song done by the world’s greatest guitarist, greatest drummer, and greatest bass player, but if the vocals were off, then it’s no good. Seriously, how many great bands and frontmen have there been who’ve had less than perfect vocals? A lot! That’s how many.
OK, rant over for me, but that’s not to say Dallas-based rock outfit, Junk, is finished with theirs. Enter their new song, “Pop Rock Genocide,” which hails from their new EP Double Soundtrack, due out January 5, 2018. The band’s members include actor Billy Blair (Surgeon General, Mother Truckin Skull Diggers, Earshot, Love Stricken Demise) on guitar and vocals, Benjamin K. Bachman (Never Mind The Darkness, Zativah Kid) on bass and vocals, and Brian “Boog Nasty” (July Alley, Shadow Reichenstein) on drums.
As an actor, Blair has appeared in Machete, Machete Kills, The Last Stand, Jonah Hex, and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Blair has also landed a role in Alita: Battle Angel, an upcoming American science-fiction action film based on Yukito Kishiro’s Battle Angel Alita manga, set to be released on July 20, 2018.
The band’s latest singles, “Pop Rock Genocide” and “The Sasquatch,” were recorded and produced at Soundhaven Studios in Rockwall, Texas, by Jason Schauer and mixed by Travis Wyrick (P.O.D.,10 Years, Shinedown). The songs will be featured in the upcoming horror/comedy movie, Cherokee Creek.
