UFC 219: Cris Cyborg Open To Boxing Match Like Conor McGregor

Cris Cyborg

The 145-pound showdown between Cris Cyborg and Holly Holm is less than a week away from happening in Las Vegas. Ahead of the final UFC event of the year, the Brazilian champion revealed her desire to do “one boxing fight” in the very near future.

During a UFC 219 media conference call, Cyborg told reporters that she is open to a boxing fight in 2018 for an opportunity to learn more and test her skills in a different combat sport.

Cyborg said,

I love to compete. I was competing when I was 12-years-old. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, but you learn.

I like to compete in everything I like to compete in jiu-jitsu, I like to compete in wrestling and Muay Thai, and if I have a chance to compete in boxing one day, why not? I think when you train in just one sport separately you learn more.

It would be really nice to finish my career and maybe do one boxing fight, but I don’t know if that will happen.

According to Cyborg, UFC president Dana White is aware of her ambition to compete in boxing like Conor McGregor did with his mega crossover match with Floyd Mayweather.

Dana knows that. I told him if I had an opportunity like McGregor to do one boxing fight, yeah I would like to do that. I love my job, I love to fight and I love to compete.

I don’t want to end my career and think about why I didn’t do it. I want to do it. I must train hard and do what I have in front of me when they have an opportunity for me.

UFC 219: Cyborg vs. Holm takes place on December 30th. The co-main event features a lightweight bout between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Edson Barboza.
