Following a very successful win over Luke Rockhold at UFC 211, Cuba’s Yoel Romero sealed his shot at the middleweight title.
That’s right! Romero has confirmed on The MMA Hour this week that the UFC promised him a championship rematch with Robert Whittaker in the very near future. As soon as Whittaker is cleared to compete from injuries and illnesses, the UFC is expected to announce the highly-anticipated fight.
Romero said,
I don’t have an idea (of when). Maybe July? I don’t know when. I hear he’s sick, he’s feeling no good, he’s feeling very bad. I pray for him. I’m waiting. I’m waiting for him.
According to Romero, the middleweight title fight could potentially take place in July, if all goes well for Whittaker. Romero also suffered a leg injury, but brushed it off during the interview with Ariel Helwani.
“Thank you God, (the leg is) good,” Romero said.
The Cuban previously lost to Whittaker in July 2017 via unanimous decision at UFC 213, so MMA fans can expect another exciting clash for the gold again.
