Champions League 2020/21 – Who Are The Favourites?

If you are looking for help with the super 6 this week, then considering who is most likely to win the Champions League Final match between Man. City and Chelsea might give you some inspiration ideas when it comes to building your bet and making your ‘Golden Goal’ predictions.

There are some things about the conclusion of this season’s competition: the trophy will end the season in the hands of an English club, the final will be hotly contested and there will be plenty of individual talent on show for us to marvel at. However, how many of you are brave enough to pick a winner when it comes to Pep’s top performing team and Tuchel’s improving one? Joinus as we look at the Champions League 2020/21 and ask who are the favourites?

Manchester City

Anyone with even a passing interest in football will be aware of Man. City’s dominance this season. With only five loses and 5 draws to their name, City have dominated the table for a large part of the season despite getting off to a somewhat slow start. It was the run of 15 unbeaten games during and after the festive period that really set them on the road to success. They are now only one win away from taking the title as three more points would give them a total of 83, and their closest rivals, Man. United, can achieve a maximum of only 81 before the close of the season. Chelsea have made them wait yet another game, though and you have to wonder about the psychological effect that will have on the team as they head towards the final. They will win the title – that is not in doubt – but it is worth noting that they have lost 2 of their last five games; a stat that will set the wheels of doubt in motion when it comes to their ability to secure club football’s most coveted prize.

When it comes to stand out performers, Manchester City have an embarrassment of riches. With established excellence like KDB and Mahrez on the pitch alongside the exciting talent of young Phil Foden, they have delivered some of the league’s most exciting football this season.

Chelsea

It has been a bit of a rollercoaster season for Chelsea. Players and fans alike were rooting for ex-player and Chelsea icon, Frank Lampard as he paced the dugout each weekend. However, Frank’s on field excellence for Chelsea did not translate well on the training ground. His Chelsea team suffered a 4-0 beating by Manchester United, an embarrassing home draw to Sheffield and a 4-2 loss to Burnley, and it soon became obvious to all that Lampard was on borrowed time. After his inevitable (and some might say tardy) dismissal, Thomas Tuchel arrived to make Chelsea a more solid and superior team than they had managed to be all season. They have won four of their last five Premier League matches, and registered a draw in the fifth. The likes of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech are starting to perform and are making Chelsea look like the world class team that fans always knew they had the potential to be.

Picking between these two teams is tough – Chelsea’s late surge could give them the upper hand, but Manchester City are experienced performers when it comes to the big games. Bookies have City as the favourites, but, as we know; this is football, and anything can happen!
