Last night, the UFC had another exciting event in Calgary, Canada. In the main event of UFC on FOX 30, Dustin Poirier prevailed in the rematch with former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez.
As many of you know, their first match ended in a controversial finish and referee Herb Dean declared the fight no contest. The rematch almost ended up being a replicate when Alvarez dropped an illegal elbow and even stuck his fingers in his opponent ear in the second round.
During the post-fight press conference Poirier said,
I don’t want to say somebody’s a dirty fighter, but the first fight, you kneed me; the second fight, you tried to elbow me illegally and you gave me a wet willy. We’ve got to draw the line somewhere.
Poirier defeated Alvarez in the second round via TKO, which turned on a restart after Alvarez landed an illegal 12-to-6 downward elbow. Poirier is now at most one fight away from a UFC lightweight title shot following his fifth consecutive victory.
However, Poirier believes he is already next. Check out what he had to say in his post-fight interview inside the Octagon.
