Persephone Bleeds is a super sexy, dark and twisted Canadian model who enjoys blood, guts, heavy metal, and cute shoes! She’s feisty, raunchy and sick in all the fun ways. Persephone spends her free time listening to music and going to concerts. She’s extremely easy going and down for most concepts from glamor and boudoir to fetish and posing with roadkill. I had a chance to sit down and have a quick chat with her and here’s what she had to say.
When did you start modeling and what was it that made you want to do it?
I started in April of 2012, when everyone was saying the world was coming to an end, and I liked to believe it would, even though deep down I knew it wouldn’t, so I decided to do something a little outside of my comfort zone to meet new and interesting people and it turns out I really liked it.
To be a successful model requires lots of stuff, perhaps a gorgeous face, hot body, and lots of time and nerves to get the name out? What’s your secret?
Well, I don’t take myself too seriously, but what’s important to me is shoes, eyelashes, and great clothes. It’s really all just spontaneous though.
What was the hardest part in getting into the business?
For me it was accepting myself and realizing there might be some potential there.
What drew you into the alternative scene and what inspires you to this day?
Well, I’ve always been an outsider. I grew up in a small town and I was always singled out for being different, and one day I saw some pictures that I really liked and decided maybe I should try that. I find my inspiration mostly from my imagination, but I think a lot of that’s inspired through music and dreams.
What would you say it is that gives the most feminine note in your look?
I blame my face (laughs), dresses, shoes, and make-up really help. I have a big shoe collection and I haven’t even worn them all. High heels look really pretty but they’re hard to walk in and for some reason I keep buying them I think I have a shoe fetish.
I’m pretty sure that you are a very creative person. Do you give some ideas to your photographers about a photo session (the creative part) or do you keep it professional and follow their vision?
Yeah, most of the time there is no planning. We just throw ideas out there and go with it, but I’m not opposed to taking direction from somebody.
What is your favourite genre of fashion? Why?
Goth fashion. I love darkness.
How would you describe your style?
Goth! Heavy metal! Vampire! Cute! Even though I hate being labelled “Goth,” everything I own is black.
Do you consider tattooing as a way of self-expression?
Yeah, I would say so. Sad part is I only have two tattoos and I got them when I was 14 and I want the butterfly one on my back covered up because it’s way too girly for me. I got it because it was a butterfly sitting on a heart and I wanted it to represent me setting my heart free and I got it a couple months before I ran away from home. (laughs) I’m totally sick of it now and I want some skulls.
What has being an alternative woman taught you about society, yourself, and the idea of beauty?
It’s taught me to love myself for who I am and it’s taught me that beauty has many forms and they’re all unique and beautiful in their own ways.
