Those of you who’ve been waiting to see Cris Cyborg’s debut at 135 pounds in December will have to wait a little longer. Cyborg is injured and officially out of Invicta 10. This also means that a potential five-round title fight with UFC Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey has also been pushed back indefinitely.
According to Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp, Cyborg injured her left ankle in training three weeks ago. Apparently the former STRIKEFORCE Women’s Featherweight Champion suffered a full thickness rupture of the anterior talofibular ligament in her left ankle, which ultimately forced her to pull out of Invicta 10 on December 5, 2014. Knapp indicated that the company decided to wait on the severity of the injury before making the announcement on Saturday.
Cyborg was set to headline Invicta 10, but due to her serious injury the event will now be headlined by “The Karate Hottie,” Michelle Waterson (12-3), who will defend her atomweight title against Brazilian mixed martial artist Herica Tiburcio (8-2). In addition, Vanessa Porto will step inside the cage against Roxanne Modafferi, and Tonya Evinger will exchange leather against Cindy Dandois.
Invicta 10 still remains on schedule in Houston with the new main event mentioned above, and will stream LIVE on UFC Fight Pass.
